On June 12th, Kelley and I hit the road for Nashville, TN. Kelley had a conference, I was off of work, and we talked our friend Jill into ditching her kids to meet us there.
We hit the strip only to find out that you don't really "hit the strip" in the middle of the day. The first of many confusing, "we must not be doing this right"-moments in Nashville.
We did know how to do a picnic in the hotel room right! Wine, cheese, tapenade, bread, and butter...lots of butter.
The next day, Jill and I ventured out to experience Nashville while Kelley attended her meeting (we tried everything to get that girl to play hookie, but Kelley is a rule-follower).

Kelley experienced her first ever fried-green tomatoes, another Southern delicacy favorite.
Ok, if you are given an opportunity to attend the Grand Ole Opry while in Nashville, you take it - right? If the event is a talent show of a bunch of U.S. immigration attorneys, you absolutely take it. Here is one of my favorite pictures, a group of respectable lawyers dressed up like California raisins and dancing all over the stage. Why, you ask? I have no idea.
In our fake world at the Gaylord Opryland Complex, we also found a fake Irish pub having a fake session!
On Friday night, we "hit the strip" at the appropriate time and had an awesome night of live country music and delicious Yuengling (Chris' favorite beer!).
Finally, Jill headed home and Kelley and I had one last night to find an authentic Nashville experience. We made the trek out to the Loveless Cafe, which we had been hearing about since our arrival. You don't have to believe me, but Kelley actually ordered a "whole chicken". Where is the vegetarian I once knew?
And finally...for my man, who loves Donkeys.

oh my gosh, that made me laugh out loud. First the raisins, and then the picture of Jill behind that enormous man. Thanks for the update!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, and the really bizarre thing about the raisins (besides the obvious oddity that immigration lawyers decided to dress as raisins) is that they were representing the Texas Chapter -- wouldn't you think they'd dress as stars or longhorns or something? Like you said, I have no idea...
